Personnel Policies

If you, a family member or a friend are in need of the services at the Wrangell Medical Center Long Term Care Facility, the following information will help you know what to do and know what to expect.

MEALS
All residents have their meals in the Day Room unless they are ill, at which times they may eat in their rooms. The daily meal schedule is as follows:

Breakfast 8:30 a.m., Lunch 12:30 p.m., Dinner 5:00 p.m., Snack 8:00 p.m.

SPECIAL DIETS
Residents may be placed on a special diet by the physician. If this occurs, the resident receives an explanation of the diet from the nursing staff.

VISITORS
Family and visitors are encouraged to visit on a regular basis. There are no set visiting hours.

Because of the possibility of special diets, it is required that visitors check with staff before bringing food to a resident.

Smoking by visitors is allowed outside the building, and, for safety purposes, visitors are requested not to give either cigarettes or matches directly to residents. (Please see section on smoking.)

PERSONAL POSSESSIONS
Residents are expected to supply their own personal care items such as shampoo, soap, toothpaste, etc. The hospital will shop once a week for those who don't have family able or available to do so on their behalf.

Residents are encouraged to bring personal items such as photos, radios, books, blankets, etc., to provide a more home-like atmosphere.

An adequate amount of clothing is expected to be supplied by the resident. All clothing will be marked with the resident's name.

Personal possessions will be inventoried upon admission. As new items are brought in, they are to be added to the inventory. Likewise, any items removed are to be deleted from the inventory.

PHOTOGRAPHS
For purposes of identification, all residents will have two photographs taken when they are admitted.

If photographs are taken for newspapers or publicity, a release must be signed before photos may be used.

SMOKING
Smoking is allowed by the residents in the Day Room only. Visitors may smoke only outside of the building. For the safety of all residents, smoking materials will be held at the nurse's station, and permissible resident smoking will be supervised by a staff member.

TELEPHONE
Telephone service is available in each room for unlimited local calls. All long distance calls must be placed by the hospital office and must be either "collect" or "billed to another number".

TELEVISION
There is a television in each room that is equipped with a control at the bed.

TEMPORARY ABSENCES
Residents may leave the facility on a temporary pass if their physician has given permission.

ACTIVITIES
There is a formal activities program supervised by an activities coordinator. Residents are encouraged to participate. Family and friends are welcome to volunteer their support.

SUGGESTIONS
Suggestions and complaints help us improve service. Residents, their families and their friends are encouraged to bring issues to the attention of the staff. Residents are also provided with a handbook that includes a list of agencies where formal complaints may be filed.
